Who Is The Best Central Midfielder In The Premier League?

The Premier League has talent in abundance these days with players all over the world being attracted to play in the best league in the world but we ask - Who is the best central midfielder in the Premier League?

First is Liverpool's Steven Gerrard. Although getting a bit old now, he definitely hasn't lost it, as he showed at the Euro's, being one of England's best players throughout. It doesn't matter if he is out of form or not, you can still see that deep down he is a quality player. His long range shooting is excellent and consistent. He is an all round midfielder who can tackle, challenge in the air, pass and shoot. He is let down by the amount of injuries nowadays but when he returns from the injuries he always shows his worth. A great leader and role model.

Next, Yaya Toure of Manchester City. The lanky Ivorian was a key figure in Manchester City's title-winning season last campaign. He dominated games and chipped in with 6 league goals. He is a great athlete showing the perfect combination of pace and strength as he flies across the pitch while opponents bounce off him. He has the ability to win games when employed in his best position and did so a number of time last season.

Another Manchester City player in the running is Spaniard David Silva. Silva is a crafty midfielder who likes to create things, he doesn't do much in terms of helping defensively. He weaves in and out of opponents with the ball almost glued to his feet before slipping through a deadly pass for his team-mate to finish. This is emphasised by the fact that in the league last season, he managed 18 assists, showing just how important he is to his team.

Also in the list is Tottenham's Scott Parker. The hardworking midfielder doesn't stop running all game and never fails to put his body on the line. He never gives up or gives the ball away. Not just talented at winning the ball, he has quality on the ball too in being able to bring the ball forward to set up an attack. A tenacious tackler he throws himself in, always leads by example and again a brilliant role model.

Another Englishman is Chelsea's Frank Lampard. He is one of the best goalscoring midfielders around reaching double figures every single season since 2003-2004, what an achievement. He has a great eye for a pass and is undoubtedly one of the best penalty takers around. His number of assists is also impressive, a box to box midfielder who is always a threat from the edge of he box.

In conclusion, I feel that the best is Yaya Toure. He is a brilliant athlete and the complete midfielder who dragged Man City through some games last season.

Transfer Sagas - Summer 2012

It seems these days that it takes an age for player to move to new clubs, rumours go on for ages about a transfer but it doesn't actually happen for quite some time. One thing I have noticed is that this Summer there has been more 'transfer sagas' than any other and they are becoming increasingly common.

One that has been going on for what seems like forever is the Luka Modric saga, last Summer he was heavily linked with a move to Chelsea but he wasn't allowed to leave, this year he has been linked with Man Utd and Real Madrid heavily. Spurs have said they will let him leave this year but only if they get the right fee for him. It is said that Real Madrid is his dream club but the move is yet to be completed. On the 25th August the Telegraph reported that the deal is done for £33.3m.

DO I THINK IT WILL HAPPEN?: YES

Another saga this Summer is Brazilian powerhouse Hulk. He has been linked with a move to Chelsea, Tottenham and recently Zenit St. Petersburg. Apparently the deal with Chelsea stalled due to his wage demands but it could still happen, however I don't see where he can fit in with all the attackers Chelsea have already bought, one of them would have to miss out on playing. He was linked with Spurs due to his links with their new manager Andre Villas Boas but I can't see that happening personally. Zenit were reported to have bid 45m for him but I can't see that either the most likely is to Chelsea, I feel.

DO I THINK IT WILL HAPPEN?: NO

A rather interesting transfer rumour recently has been Andy Carroll to West Ham. It is said that he is wanted out of Liverpool and after hearing that West Ham launched some audacious bids, firstly a loan and then a £16m bid. Newcastle were also interested but Alan Pardrew says he doesn't expect to bid for him again. This means that his most likely destination is West Ham. He has snubbed the East London club twice and they seemed to give up but rumours have very recently reignited the saga.

DO I THINK IT WILL HAPPEN?: YES

Another rumour that has been going round a while is involving Birmingham City keeper Jack Butland. He has been linked with Liverpool and Man City heavily however a host of other clubs are also said to be after him. It has seemed that every week that goes by, he is linked with a new club. Tottenham are the latest to show interest. He has been linked most heavily with a move to Manchester City.

DO I THINK IT WILL HAPPEN?: YES

Finally, the saga between Mathieu Debuchy and Newcastle. The French right-back impressed massively during the Euro's and Newcastle have a number of time said to have been close to grabbing his signature. It had looked like it had gone quiet however recently Alan Pardrew is said to have 'upped' his offer.

DO I THINK IT WILL HAPPEN?: YES

I had hoped to include a few more in this article however recently quite a few sagas were ended. These include:

Victor Moses --> Chelsea
Steven Fletcher --> Sunderland
Allen --> Liverpool
Robin Van Persie --> Man Utd
Emmanuel Adebayor --> Tottenham
Cesar Azpilicueta --> Chelsea

I've added a thumbs up or thumbs down rating feature below, it would be great if you could vote on this article! What do you think will happen in the end to these rumours? Tell us in the comments section below!

Who Is The Best Striker In The Premier League?

Strikers often grab the glory on matchdays, especially in the Premier League so we ask the question - Who is the best striker in the Premier League? In this article we will take a number of factors into consideration not just how many goals they score.

So we begin with none other than Van the Man, Robin Van Persie. The flying Dutchman had a phenomenal season bagging the golden boot with 30 goals in the league. His sweet left foot was the downfall of many teams as he fired in goal after goal throughout the campaign. He doesn't just score goals, he joins in with the play often dropping in to receive the ball before spraying it wide and darting into the box for a chance. Robin doesn't always have the best work rate and isn't keen on helping out at all in winning the ball back. Anyone who can score that many goals in a season has to be considered as one of the best around which he definitely is..

Undoubtedly one of the most controversial forwards of all time is Luis Suarez. The Uruguayan is a hero in the eyes of the Kop but not so popular with anyone else. He suffered slightly with the odd injury but his season was mainly hindered by the racism scandal which meant he had to endure a ban. He still bagged 11 league goals and chipped in with 3 assists. The highlight of his season was definitely his sublime hattrick against Norwich which included a David Beckham like effort. He definitely has talent but it is not always clear to see, he does struggle slightly with consistency but when his ability shines through he is a great player. Suarez has talent but he has to make sure that is more evident than his disciplinary problems. Currently only 25, Suarez is perhaps one of the best but not yet the best striker maybe he will be in the future if he can sort himself out.

Next is one of the hottest strikers around, Newcastle's Papiss Cisse. Since coming to St. James Park (Not the Sports Direct Arena!) Cisse has been a sensation. For someone to join a new team and then settle in to such a difficult and fast league which the Premier League definitely is, was unbelievable. It has taken strikers a season to settle in at times but not Cisse, he got straight down to business and made himself a hero instantly with his extremely impressive scoring rate which currently stands at 13 goals in 14 games. It has been suggested to me that Cisse is a half-season wonder, he very well might be but I think it is unlikely as the talent he has shown wouldn't just go like that, you can see he has ability, he just needs to keep up the good work. Maybe he isn't the best striker in the league just yet but if he can maintain his red-hot form and scoring rate into next season then he could very well be soon.

Another who settled in very quickly into the Premier League is Manchester City's Sergio Aguero. He became a hero forever when he got the title winning goal against QPR back in May. In his first season he managed to get 23 goals which is very impressive in itself. He is very quick and always knows where the goal is and often finds it with a cute little finish. Had a slight dry patch in the season where he couldn't get a goal but that soon sorted itself out and he found himself back on the scoresheet again. Only 24 years old, Aguero definitely has a bright future but I don't think he is the best in the league just yet.

Also on the list is Aguero's Argentine partner at Manchester City, Carlos Tevez. After his return to action Tevez immediately showed his quality and linked up beautifully with Aguero a number of times. Tevez gets goals but that is not his only asset, he also has a phenomenal work rate. He hounds down the ball from opponents and gets his rewards rightfully for it, he has a never give up attitude also. He is quite a controversial figure but his ability is clear to see and when he returned to action earlier in the season he started where he left off, scoring goals. I don't feel that Manchester City is the best team for him, I think he would benefit from playing somewhere else but if he can produce performances like that there then he can play anywhere he wants.

Next is a Spaniard, Chelsea's Fernando Torres. Some of you will be thinking "What?! How is he on here?!". I can see your point but I am a fan of Torres, I dislike his disloyalty in the way he just dumped Liverpool as soon as another club came knocking but as a player I admire him. Although he has had a tough time at Chelsea, things are looking up for him as he won the EURO Golden Boot and managed to find some goalscoring form at the end of the Premier League season too. He works hard for his team, not quite as hard as Tevez but still more than most forwards. Torres has pace to burn and when he is in form, he is almost unplayable, the only problem for him is reaching that form however he seems to be re-finding himself again and we are starting to see some of the old Fernando Torres again. If he can start next season where he left off then the Premier League better watch out 'cause 'El Nino' is red-hot when he is on form.

Last but by no means least is Manchester United's Wayne Rooney. The former Evertonian had a very good season for United, coming 2nd in the Golden Boot race and grabbing 27 league goals. Rooney is another who has an excellent work rate and like Van Persie he sometimes drops in to join in the play. He has a great shot on him and as a player is intelligent, although the same cannot be said off the pitch! Deadly from free kicks, decent in the air, fairly quick and powerful Rooney has all the attributes a striker needs but what sets him apart is his tenacity. Rooney had a poor EURO'S in my opinion and was awful but in the league he was excellent, he just needs to find his form again.

In conclusion, in my opinion, the best striker in the Premier League is Wayne Rooney. You may disagree but I feel he is pretty much the complete striker and he offers a lot to any team he plays in. Not only does he play well within the team, he gets goals too and this was shown with his 27 this season. He has a determination to succeed and like I said is tenacious. I'd love to know who you think is the best striker in the Premier League and if you think I missed anyone out on the list of candidates, leave those comments in the comment section below.

10 Of The Most Under-Rated Players Around

We all love the prolific striker who grabs 20 goals a season but we often forget the more unsung heroes of the game who do the hard work and have to sacrifice glory for others or just haven't been noticed yet.

First up is Wolves Winger, Matt Jarvis. The speedy Englishman can often be seen hitting in a cross for someone to poke in. Jarvis also chips in with the occasional goal for his side and although part of a relegated team last season he proved himself to be one of their best players perhaps hinting that he has earned himself a move back to the Premier League. Only capped once for England after coming on against Ghana at Wembley earlier this year many haven't heard of him or noticed his talents.

Next on the list is Tottenham's Scott Parker. The Spurs man represented England at the Euros however people don't realise all the hard work that goes on behind the scenes. He never gives up and although not regularly on the scoresheet he is often the man who wins the ball for his team and begins the attacks. Always putting his body on the line Parker gives his all in every match he plays and will no doubt continue to do so after he returns from his achilles injury.

QPR's Jamie Mackie is relatively unknown to most but in my opinion he is an excellent player who is very skillfull. Mackie scores the odd goal too and creates chances for others. Defensively he is good too as he works hard for his team. A determined player who came back from a broken leg last year better than ever however he is not often given plaudits for his goo performances.

Marc Albrighton is Villa's young winger. The 22 year old is quick and bursts down the wings before whipping in a great cross. He has a sweet right foot and nearly always produces a great delivery for his team mates. Diligent too in his defending, the youngster is a good prospect for the future and in my opinion should be in the England set up soon, I feel that perhaps a transfer to a more consistent club would do him some good.

The veteran Evertonian Leon Osman is next on the list. Osman has been a great servant for Everton for the last 12 years and has easily been one of their most consistent players in my opinion. With 33 goals in his Everton career Osman has often conjured up a piece of magic for his side. Osman is now 31 but you wouldn't be able to tell as he quietly does his work around the pitch.

George McCartney recently signed for West Ham from Sunderland and this is a good piece of business from the Hammers I feel. I saw McCartney play most of last season on loan for West Ham and what I saw was an excellent defender who can also get forward well. He doesn't let anyone past him and is never out of position, an intelligent player, he gets on with his work well. One of only a few at full-back who can get forward too and deliver a good cross.

Although he has been linked with a move to Liverpool recently, I don't think Joe Allen gets enough credit for his talents. The classy Welshman has been performing well for Swansea and Team GB with his excellent vision and ability to receive the ball under pressure and then calmly release it to a team mate. He was a pivotal member of the Swansea team last season and at such a young age I feel that he has a great career ahead of him and Liverpool will do very well to get his signature

Jermain Defoe doesn't get much football at Spurs these days however I think this is quite unfair. He is a goal scorer and given the chance he will score goals. He finds it hard to find starts at Tottenham but he is quick and aggressive and should be played more. Involved in the England set up but not used much he is 29 and still has a considerable amount of football ahead of him, I think he would benefit from a move away from White Hart Lane where he can get playing football again and get scoring goals again as he definitely has the ability to.

Robert Green recently secured a transfer to Loftus Road from West Ham and after his catastrophic mistake at the World Cup, I think people have underestimated him. In the last few seasons for West Ham he has saved them countless times. Without Green in goal I feel that in the season where West Ham were relegated they would have already been down by February. He is a great keeper who excels at saving penalties. He has made one big mistake but hasn't let that affect him and carried on with his career playing better than ever before. This is a great bit of business from QPR and they will definitely not regret signing him.

Finishing off the list is Wigan Athletic's Ali Al-Habsi. The keeper has had a difficult time as he has struggled to keep Wigan in the Premier League but without him they would have been down years ago. His efforts are hardly ever recognised but he has kept Wigan in numerous games with incredible saves and he wears his heart on his sleeve giving his all for his side.

Who else do you think is under-rated and should be given more credit, tell us in the comments section below.  Some feedback on the article would also be great. I've added a thumbs up or thumbs down rating, please vote!
